Sunday May 5, 2024 – 1pm
WALK LEADER: Judith Robinson, North to the World / Strawberry Mansion Civic Association
MEETING PLACE: Mt. Pleasant Mansion, 3800 Mt Pleasant Drive
Free. Rain or shine. All are welcome.
Our walk through East Fairmount Park will begin at Mt. Pleasant Mansion. We will hear the story of the area before Fairmount Park was created, and the enslaved peoples who helped maintain the estates that are now part of the park. The walk will move northward toward telling the story of protection of the waters of the Schuylkill River, finishing up at Woodford Mansion where William Coleman built his home, also a plantation. We should be able to enter and see the newly developed replica of the enslaved quarters.
Walk notes:
- Approximate duration – 2 hours
